April showers bring May friendships
/As I am sitting here writing this, it is a dreary day full of clouds and rain. While these days are not my most productive, they allow me to reflect on the beauty that occurs after the showers. Some of that beauty will (hopefully!) be my newly planted garden, but more of it is in the friendships made through gardens and flowers.
My husband and I recently purchased a home here in Wichita. It is a true fixer-upper, and we love having lots of projects to do. A few weekends ago, we removed an old tree from the front yard, along with some landscaping stones. We put the old stones on the side of our house to dispose of at a later date. A little while later, our next-door neighbor texted me asking to use them. What a gift! These stones that we were going to get rid of, can now be the beginning of our neighbor’s new flowerbed.
I was so grateful our neighbor went out on a limb to text me. She is teaching me what it is to be a better neighbor, even through these small actions. But I will say, the banana bread she brought as a thank you really made me feel like I got the better end of that deal!
I am looking forward to watching her flowers grow and blossom, and knowing that we played a little part in their beauty brings me great joy. An even greater joy is knowing that my neighbor is always ready and willing to act in kind ways towards her neighbors. What a joy these rainy days can be - bring on the flowers and friendships!
