52 Weeks of Neighboring - Week 25
/Neighboring Tip of the Week - Spread the word about a business in your neighborhood with good coronavirus practices.
Happy August! We don’t know about you, but for us at the Neighboring Movement, it feels so crazy that it’s August! In some ways, it feels like it should just be April, as these past months seem like they’ve had a time-warping quality. In other ways, it feels like it should at least be November, as this year has just seemed so long. 2020 has been a doozy, but we’re excited to continue moving forward together! We hope this email finds you well.
Because the coronavirus has been affecting our communities in dramatic ways, and seemingly, will continue to do so for the indefinite future, businesses are making significant changes to the ways they offer their goods or services. Whether they are shifting more towards online ordering, contactless pickup, or safe in-person services, businesses are thinking through how best to keep people safe while also continuing to provide their resources. But, we’ve discovered that some businesses have safer systems in place than others. So, this week, we encourage you to think about or discover businesses in your neighborhood that have good coronavirus practices and then spread the word about them!
For us, we think about these good practices as being things that help keep both the customers of the business, and the employees of the business, safe and healthy, with as little exposure to the virus as possible. These could include things like:
a mask-wearing requirement or precedent
a glove-wearing requirement or precedent
online ordering
contactless or curbside pickup
delivery to your home
good ventilation
plexiglass shields around counters
hand sanitizer
automatic doors
floors that are marked for physical distancing
In the midst of this pandemic, we think it’s incredibly important to support businesses in our neighborhoods, but on top of this, we also think it’s extremely important to support businesses in our neighborhoods that utilize these kinds of good coronavirus practices. Like we are attempting to do, these businesses are also doing their best to help stop the spread of the virus and keep people like our neighbors healthy, and we think it’s important to support that! And honestly, what better way to promote a business in your neighborhood than by telling others that the business cares about the well-being of their customers and employees, and because of this, has made these kinds of changes?
Happy neighboring!
